The Kansas City Chiefs finally scored some points but it still wasn’t enough in a 41-34 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Most who saw this game on the schedule made sure they didn’t watch it considering the two teams involved, but it actually turned into one of the most exciting games of the year.
Running back Jerome Harrison had a huge second half to finish the day with 286 yards and three touchdowns. The rushing yardage broke the single-game franchise mark set by the legendary Jim Brown. The Chiefs certainly won’t be bragging about that.
They also won’t be happy that they surrendered two kickoff returns for touchdowns to star Joshua Cribbs. Had the Chiefs simply done their job on special teams, they would have won the game.
About the only bit of good news was the play of struggling quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns in what will hopefully be his breakout performance.

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their struggles in a disappointing 16-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Quarterback Matt Cassel continues to look awful and will soon be in jeopardy of losing his starting job.
Head coach Todd Haley is an offensive guy who isn’t going to tolerate such a poor level of play from that side of the ball.
Cassel gets the benefit of the doubt to a degree because of the lack of weapons around him, but he still shouldn’t look this bad.
The Chiefs are really starting to go into the tank after looking respectable for awhile and are making a run at a top draft pick.

The Kansas City Chiefs were thoroughly embarassed at home by the Denver Broncos in a 44-13 loss.
A lot of analysts thought that the Chiefs could pull off the upset, hosting the Broncos just a week after their big win over the Giants.
Kansas City has had a lot of success in recent years hosting the Broncos, but this year certainly wasn’t one of them.
Quarterback Matt Cassel had a horrible day throwing the football, and he could be finding his way to the bench if he keeps it up.
Running back Jamaal Charles continues to be a bright spot for the Chiefs, but he needs some more help around him.

Last year, now-Broncos coach Josh McDaniels was serving as the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator… and with Tom Brady being taken out by the Chiefs in Week 1 of the 2008-09 season, McDaniels worked with backup QB Matt Cassel to lead the Pats to an 11-5 record.
But now, a year later, with McDaniels coaching the Broncos and Cassel now the head QB of the Chiefs, McDaniels showed no mercy in Denver’s 44-13 victory over Kansas City on Sunday, keeping pace with the San Diego Chargers in the AFC West division race.
“I want to win. I’m a Bronco,” McDaniels said. “We’re going to have more games against the Chiefs and Matt Cassel. It’s going to take a good effort to contain him and stop him every time we play him.”
On a day where they retired the jersey of Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas, the Chiefs did everything they could to soil the good feelings in the stadium.
Their defense was a disaster, allowing 17 plays of 10 yards or more, and giving up consecutive 40 yard games to opponents for the first time in over 25 years.
And their offense, led by Cassel, wasn’t much better, as Cassel had a 14.6 QB rating on 10-of-29 passing, before Chiefs coach Todd Haley ultimately pulled his new franchise QB in favor of backup Brodie Croyle.
“I think it’s pretty simple: if you drop the ball on offense and throw the ball to them and you turn it over, you’re not going to do very well,” Haley said.

The Kansas City Chiefs put forth a pretty sad effort in an embarassing 43-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
Kansas City tried to hang early with the high-powered Chargers offense but quickly ran out of steam.
By the time halftime rolled around, the Chiefs were already buried and the game was essentially over.
It’s tough for the Chiefs because they are simply overmatched on both sides of the ball right now.
It also didn’t help that the team doesn’t have wide receiver Dwayne Bowe back yet. He is their biggest vertical threat.

In a game the San Diego Chargers had to win to maintain an one-game lead over the Denver Broncos in the AFC West, Philip Rivers and the Chargers came out firing against the Kansas City Chiefs, who they trounced by the score of 43-14 on Sunday.
Rivers completed two touchdown passes to TE Antonio Gates, and the Chiefs allowed RB LaDainian Tomlinson to look like a shade of his former self as he scored on two rushing touchdowns as well.
The Chargers dominated on every side of the ball, as they relied on Chiefs turnovers to set up easy scores all game. The Chargers scored on each of four turnovers by the Chiefs, including a strip sack/fumble from Chiefs QB Matt Cassel.
“You can’t give a good team that’s playing really well right now 28 points off turnovers,” Cassel said. He finished 19-of-31 for 178 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.
Rookie coach Todd Haley, who has milked three wins out of the Chiefs so far this season, hoped that his young team would take “another baby step” with the game.
“But if you turn the ball over it’s going to get out of hand quick, which is exactly what happened,” Haley said.
The one bright spot for the Chiefs would be WR Chris Chambers, who they signed a few weeks back after the Chargers released him. Chambers caught seven passes for 70 yards and a score, as he’s become comfortable in the Chiefs’ No. 1 receiving role with WR Dwayne Bowe out four games.
