Chiefs surprise, take Berry at No. 5
The Kansas City Chiefs passed on an offensive lineman and instead selected safety Eric Berry with the No. 5 overall pick.
Berry was far and away the top safety in the draft and drew a lot of comparisons to Baltimore’s Ed Reed.
He is considered to be a ballhawk and playmaker in the same way as Reed, which is certainly high praise.
Safeties typically aren’t drafted very high because teams often feel that it’s not worth paying top 5 money to a player at that position.
Nonetheless, Berry will immediately improve a Kansas City defense that is trying to vault its way into the top half of the NFL.
